Program - Ray Of Hope Africa

January 27, 2009

Perhaps we realize how lucky we are, and we want to give back. Maybe we are searching for another life purpose in this self-centered ‘me, me, me’ society. Or it may simply be that we feel it is our duty as human beings to better the lives of those less fortunate. There are as many reasons as to why people volunteer as there are volunteers themselves or why do people fund.
So many lives are enriched by organizations that provide invaluable services to communities which, without the work of dedicated volunteers, simply would not be able to function.
In addition to fulfilling the desire to make a difference, volunteering offers us an opportunity to see the world through new eyes and to better understand it. When we experience different cultures and alternate ways of living, we not only develop an appreciation and compassion for others, but learn to better understand ourselves, and ultimately grow in that understanding.
The beauty of volunteering lies in the fact that when you give, you receive so much more in return.
You will:

  • gain self-confidence and self esteem
  • discover your strengths and talents
  • develop a sense of independence
  • have compassion for others
  • raise your social awareness
  • interact with a diverse range of people
  • make life-long friends
  • create challenging and fulfilling experiences that will turn into long-lasting memories

Volunteering also enhances your working life.
You will:

  • learn social and technical skills that are transferable to any business environment
  • develop interpersonal, team-building and problem-solving skills
  • gain international hands-on work experience
  • explore exciting career options that will take you all over the world
  • clarify your career path

By volunteering, you will change the lives of others by giving them the hope to realize their dreams. In doing so, you will inspire others to give of themselves. After such an experience, you will undoubtedly glow, and those around you will bask in your light.
Volunteering and Independent Travel
Whether it's at an orphanage in Tanzania or a wildlife conservation in  Africa, few things are quite as rewarding as a period of volunteering. But whilst you're anxiously waiting to set off, now's the time to think about getting the most out of the experience . and where to head next.
Accommodation for Volunteers
Although many positions provide accommodation for the duration of a project, not everywhere has the capacity to offer every volunteer a place to stay.
Working miles away from home can be a daunting proposition and finding great accommodation can help you feel secure and really enjoy the experience. It's important to find somewhere that will keep costs to a minimum, but that will also be safe.
Where to Next?
When the volunteering project comes to an end, you're in the perfect position to continue exploring the country or continent where you've been working or even head further field. After all, it seems a bit of a waste to get all the way around the world, and not make the most of the opportunities that it throws up for a spot of independent travel, too!
Independent travel can be key to really experiencing a new culture, but it can also have a dramatic effect on your life. The confidence and initiative needed to budget and plan out a successful trip will help you develop as an individual and gain a better understanding of others.
What's more, traveling can open doors on your return home as prospective employers respect the essential skills obtained on the road and understand the resourcefulness and preparation required for striking out alone. As Ray of Hope Africa will give a certificate of achieved;
