MOUNTAIN CLIMBS/ TREKS
Mount Kilmanjaro
The highest mountain in Africa (19,330 ft) and one of the highest volcanos in the
world. Kilimanjaro rises 15,000 ft above the surrounding plains and savannahs. It is
the highest mountain in the world possible to climb without technical expertise. In
climbing it, you will pass from a tropical to an arctic climate in a few days. The
encircling rain forest ensures the fertility of the lush, lower-lying shamba (country),
where the Chagga cultivate their coffee, maize and bananas. Monkeys, birds and
antelope abound. Elephants, buffalo and black rhinos range through the forest and
leopards are occasionally seen.

Surprisingly, you may meet herds of eland as high as on the saddle between the two
summits of Kilimanjaro: Kibo and Mawenzi. This alpine desert stretches between the
ragged Mawenzi (16,890 ft), and the well-known profile of the ice-capped Kibo, with
its highest point Uhuru peak 4,500 ft above the saddle.

Enjoy a climbing adventure to the summit of this magnificent mountain with your
climbing specialist- Pawa Rafiki Tours & Safaris LTD.

Mt Meru
Mount Meru is one of Africa's most beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second highest
mountain in Tanzania at 4,566m, the fifth highest in Africa.
Mount Meru is located within Arusha National Park , Tanzania's gem. This prime
location gives the mount meru walkers the opportunity to spot some of the birds
and wildlife that inhabit the area. The ascend is quite steep, the route to the mount
meru summit passes over streams, through parkland, montane forest, a giant
heather zone and moorland. The Mount Meru summit is reached by a narrow, barren
ridge, which provides stunning views of the ash cone lying several thousand feet
below in the crater. Weather permitting, Kilimanjaro can be seen in the west. There
are two huts available while climbing Mt. Meru and firewood is supplied. The best
time to climb Mount Meru is between June and February. Many people who have
climbed both Kilimanjaro and Meru have preferred the Meru climb. It is also chosen
by some because of the shorter time commitment required.
